    In a short 50 years, the returning 700,000 CSA vets created a New Society, adopted the 500,000 orphans, married the widows, and raised large families. In 1915, the average veteran was 70 and the last died in 1938. Alberta Martin (December 4, 1906 May 31, 2004) may be the last widow of a Confederate soldier.

    The Troubles of Reconstruction fill the textbooks and even today we are a work in progress. Maybe the Feds should have devised a new system before destroying the old.

    Anyway, the old 1915 newspapers suggest a prospering South building new railroad lines that are attracting industry.
