    The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for Beaufort County as follows:

    ...HEAVY RAINFALL EXPECTED ACROSS EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA THURSDAY

    NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY ...

    .TROPICAL MOISTURE FROM HURRICANE JOAQUIN WILL INTERACT WITH AN

    UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM BRINGING A PROLONGED PERIOD OF HEAVY RAINFALL

    TO THE REGION. WIDESPREAD 4 TO 7 INCHES OF RAIN EXPECTED WITH

    LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

    THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEWPORT/MOREHEAD CITY HAS ISSUED

    A

    * FLOOD WATCH FOR A PORTION OF EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA...

    INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING BEAUFORT...CARTERET...CRAVEN...JONES...

    MAINLAND DARE...MAINLAND ...HYDE...ONSLOW...OUTER BANKS

    DARE... OUTER BANKS HYDE...PAMLICO...TYRRELL AND WASHINGTON.

    * FROM THURSDAY EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING

    * WIDESPREAD 4 TO 7 INCHES OF RAINFALL IS EXPECTED...WITH LOCALLY

    HIGHER HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. THIS AMOUNT OF RAIN WILL PRODUCE

    WIDESPREAD PONDING OF ROADWAYS AND FLOODING OF URBAN AND POOR

    DRAINAGE AREAS...ESPECIALLY WITH THE GROUND ALREADY SATURATED.

    DRAINAGE DITCHES MAY ALSO OVERFLOW ONTO ROADWAYS...AND EVEN

    FLOODING OF MORE RURAL AREAS IS POSSIBLE. STREAMS AND RIVERS ARE

    ALSO EXPECTED TO RISE.

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

    A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON

    CURRENT FORECASTS.
