Governor McCrory Congratulates Raleigh City Council for Approving Dorothea Dix Sale Contract

News Release:

Raleigh, NC     Governor Pat McCrory issued the following statement after the Raleigh City Council approved a contract that calls for the City of Raleigh to purchase the 300-acre Dorothea Dix property from the State of North Carolina for approximately $52 million.

"The Dorothea Dix property sale will allow the creation of a destination park in our state capital, protects the taxpayers and provides much needed funding for mental health services," Governor McCrory said. "We look forward to taking this agreement before the Council of State in May. I appreciate the hard work of our team as well as Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane, the City Council and the city staff for their efforts in what proved to be a long, but productive process."

The contract allows for the state to lease some of the property to house facilities for the Department of Health and Human Services.

The next step is for the contract to be approved by the North Carolina Council of State. The council's next meeting is May 5.
