Town Governments

Town governments are not quite cities, but large enough to make some news from time to time.

A group of citizens has filed a lawsuit against the Town of Chocowinity in an attempt to correct what the suit alleges was a violation of the law in the June 3, 2014 decision of the Town Board to amend the town's zoning ordinance to permit a jail.
The latest from Belhaven, NC is not good news. After Vidant Health Inc. reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice and the North Carolina NAACP, a ally of Vidant Health called Pantego Creek, LLC announced that it would stand in the way of the hospital staying open.
Pungo Hospital closed its doors Tuesday (7-1-14). Whether it will be forever or whether the community that support keeping the hospital functioning will be successful in saving their hospital remains to be seen.
The Beaufort, Hyde, and Pitt county chapters of the NAACP have filed a formal Title VI Complaint with the U. S. Justice Department seeking to block Vidant from closing Pungo Hospital.
The notification letter from Vidant Pungo Hospital President Harvey Case was short and to the point.
This release of news, from EMS Director John Pack, may be pertinent to the continuance of Vidant Pungo, and then again, maybe not.
Stan, here is a video documenting Mayor O'Neal's walk, and below are the many articles and TV stories about it so far.
On Tuesday, July 22 at 12 p.m., Hyde County citizens will share their stories from the last 20 days since the hospital closed of their loved ones suffering and in one case dying waiting to be transported to an emergency room.
